Deputy Foreign Minister Amir Mansour Borqeie was in Havana April 4-6 to negotiate cooperation in nanotechneology, biotechnology and Cuba’s sugar industry, as well as the sale of more Iranian-made industrial equipment.

Iran last year tripled a loan to rebuild Cuba’s railroad system from euro 200 million to euro 600 million (US$680 million).

Mansour: Biotech, sugar, railroads

Transport Minister Jorge Luis Sierra Cruz said that purchases of Iranian equipment will be made in prioritized sectors such as railroads, water supply infrastructure, irrigation, power generation and transmission, sugar industry, and heavy industry, according to a statement by the Cuban foreign ministry. Cuba also expects new agreements in the biotech sector. The statement didn’t provide more detail.

Cuban officials encouraged Mansour to seek joint projects involving other member countries of the ALBA trade and integration agreement.

Mansour also met with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez.
