Brazil’s export and investment promotion agency APEX and the Cuban ministry of construction signed a framework agreement for construction, equipment and supplies during the FECONS 2010 construction fair in Havana.

Brazilian construction companies are involved in the expansion of the port of Mariel, and have expressed interest in road and hotel construction in Cuba. As hosts of the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2014 soccer World Cup, Brazil is facing a slew of major construction projects.

The agreement covers housing construction and imports of Brazilian-made construction supplies and equipment by GESCONS, a division of the Cuban construction ministry. APEX also commits to helping Comercial Siboney, the export division of the Cuban construction ministry, to find markets in Brazil and third countries in Latin America.

Finally, Brazil and Cuba committed to evaluating joint projects in the areas of construction, marble, nickel, ferro-nickel, modular housing, sand mining technology and more.
